Forks Over Knives

Looks like another great film! I love all these opportunities to learn and share. It's so easy now, no one has an excuse to be ignorant. Forks Over Knives

Farmageddon

The Prophet said to plant a garden....

and here's one reason why. Our government is raping our food supply. This is an important film that raises awareness to the illegal activity being perpetrated on innocent farmers.

THIS Asthma Solution Costs No Money…

http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2010/07/13/insufficient-vitamin-d-tied-to-severe-asthma-attacks.aspx

Asthmatic children with low blood vitamin D levels may have a greater risk of suffering severe asthma attacks.

A study followed more than 1,000 children with asthma for four years, and found those with vitamin-D insufficiency at the outset were more likely to have an asthma attack that required a trip to the hospital.

Reuters reports:

“When the researchers considered other factors -- including the severity of the children's asthma at the study's start, their weight and their family income -- vitamin D insufficiency itself was linked to a 50 percent increase in the risk of severe asthma attacks.”

Speaker Spotlight: Phil McLemore

Meditation nearly saved my life a few years ago. I had been toying aournd with it for quite a while, remembering that the General Authorities has encouraged us to practice it, but there is no LDS manual on meditation, so I just waded my way through it until I was hit with a crisis in my life and needed it in order to keep my head above water. There were days I'd meditate for 45 minutes or more just in order to face my day.

Meditation was a big topic for me to include with the conference, and the conference board agreed. But where, o where, does one find an LDS meditation guru? A person like that isn't exactly in every ward, or even stake. Well, we were lucky to stumble upon Phil McLemore.

Philip McLemore received his Master’s Degree from the University of Florida and is the former LDS Institute of Religion Director at Auburn University and the University of Georgia.

He retired from the U.S. Air Force in 2004, after 20 years of service as a military chaplain. As a chaplain, Philip specialized in marriage & grief counseling, values education, and stress management. After an injury to his back, neck, and shoulder, Philip began a meditation practice to manage chronic pain and stress. He soon discovered that meditation was designed for the primary purpose of spiritual awakening and embarked on a decade of in-depth study and practice with world-renowned meditation masters. Philip is an expert in ancient and modern forms of meditation and contemplative prayer and currently works as a hospice chaplain and meditation instructor.

Phil is teaching 3 classes:

  • Awakening into the Spirit: The Art and Practice of Meditation / Part One: The Philosophical and Spiritual Foundation.
  • Awakening into the Spirit: The Art and Practice of Meditation / Part Two: Principles and Techniques for a Lifelong Meditation Practice
  • Becoming The Beloved of The Lord: Maturing through the Stages of Spiritual Growth

Speaker Spotlight: David Christopher

David Christopher began apprenticing with his father, Dr. John R. Christopher, in 1972 and became manager of the Dr. Christopher Herb Company in 1974. One of the first things he did was to professionally publish Dr. Christopher books which lead to incorporating Christopher Publications in 1977.

Dr. Christopher asked David to help with the School of Natural Healing, and in 1979 he took over the reigns of the school. During the 80’s David was instrumental in establishing the school in England. This has resulted in the majority of present day English herbalists being trained in the Dr. Christopher theories.

In 1982 David Christopher began to lecture on his own for different health organizations. His lecturing prompted him to resign as president of the herb company and to fully pursue teaching in 1993. He left the herb company in the care of his siblings. In the following year the School of Natural Healing became the 30th fastest growing company in Utah and was honored personally by Utah Governor, Michael Leavitt. David also helped to establish the Irish School of Natural Healing and still teaches there each year.

We are so pleased to have David involved with the conference and know that you will benefit greatly from his classes:

Speaker Spotlight: Nicole Hamory

I first met Nicole as my daughter's yoga instructor. For a while I had been trying to get my 13 year old to do yoga with me, but to no avail...it (or I) just wasn't "cool" enough for her or something. And then she decided to do a class. Every week she'd come home from class with a new found respect of her body, how it operates and insight into deeper spiritual topics. Nicole was an answer to my prayers! I thought, "Now if she can make a 13 year old get really into yoga, she must posses some sort of magic!

Before becoming the
co-founder and Program Director of GreenTREE Yoga of Utah, and co-author of Yoga for Kids to Teens (Sunstone Press), Nicole was an elite rowing athlete. The sport was very hard on her body, and she found healing through yoga. Nicole shares her passions nationally as a retreat facilitator/educator with Women Beyond Cancer. She is also a rowing coach for Utah Crew and Huntsman Cancer Institute Wellness Programs.

After you refresh your body and mind, you can indulge your sweet tooth with Nicole's two classes:

Yoga
Healthy Chocolate (which you can eat at! YUM!)

See you there!

Speaker Spotlight: Steven Horne

I owe a lot to Steven Horne and he doesn't even know it. Steven is the author of The ABC Herbal and when I was starting off in my herbal studies, his little book was like gold to me. It was written in a very easy to understand format and had tons of information I used all the time, and still do to this day, which is why he was one of the first people we asked to present at the conference!

In addition to being an author, Steven is an herbalist, natural health teacher and lives in St. George, Utah. I really do consider him one of today's modern pioneers in the study of herbs. If you take his classes, you will be telling others about him for years to come!

His classes (which are filling up fast!) include:

Understanding Herbal Medicine
The Cold IS the Cure
Pain Relief Without Medication

Speaker Spotlight: Dr. Joseph Humphreys

We are so excited to have Dr. Humphreys on board!

As the director and brains behind Healing Pediatrics, he has helped so many children recover from their disorders, namely that of autism, ADD and other related maladies.

I invited Dr. Humphreys to attend a vaccination class that I teach a while ago, and knew right away that he not only knew his stuff, but knew much more than I did on the subject! He was one of the first people we contacted to present at the conference and was humbled he make time to do so!

Dr. Humphreys is teaching two classes:

Even if you don't have children, the subject of vaccines affects us all! It would be an hour well spent to come learn from his years of experience and knowledge.

His classes are filling up fast, so register soon!

Speaker Spotlight: Stephanie Greenwood

A few years ago I bought something called 'Pit Putty'. I was a little skeptical - natural deodorants tend to have a bad reputation. To my delight, the stuff worked! From then on out, I was hooked on Bubble and Bee.

Imagine how happy we were when the owner, Stephanie, agreed to present at the conference!

If you've never tried any Bubble and Bee products, you are missing out. Not to mention the packaging is just fantastic and fun.

Stephanie is teaching 2 classes:

Top Ten Chemicals in Personal Care Products to Avoid

Xenoestrogens: What They Are, How They Affect You, and How to Avoid Them.

Both highly important topics. We are saturated in synthetics in our daily lives, and if people only knew how they were affecting their lives they would make better choices. Luckily there are some great alternatives to all the "stuff" we are being exposed to!

Stephanie says
:

"
We're dedicated not only to making the purest products around, but educating people about the dangers of chemicals in personal care products. "

We owe it not only to ourselves, but also our children and teens (who are more exposed to these synthetics in my opinion) to learn what we can do to reduce the ill effects of these chemicals on our systems!

Visit Bubble and Bee's Facebook Page here and become a fan!

Speaker Spotlight: Pam Udy

“Every woman should feel supported in her births and empowered through those births to become a strong, beautiful mother.”

I was so excited when Pam agreed to speak at the conference. Having been a birth junkie for the past 14+ years, I had heard Pam's name floating around for years and years. If you are pregnant or planning on becoming pregnant, you HAVE to go to Pam's classes! The one on VBAC especially is one not to miss, whether you've already had a cesarean or not.

Pam and her husband were married in the Manti Temple (almost) nineteen years ago. They have five children ranging in age from 17 to 6. The first two were scheduled cesareans at 38 weeks due to impatience and ignorance. The next three were natural, vaginal births, with one being born at home.

Pam spends her days being with her children, having fun, learning, teaching, growing, cleaning, reading and laughing. “Homeschooling is the greatest joy and the greatest challenge rolled up in one big eggroll.”

Pam has a late night, part-time job doing housekeeping in the Salt Lake Temple. “I’m doing a little different work than you usually do when you come to the temple, but the Spirit is always there. It is wonderful, while vacuuming, to tune into the Spirit. It is a blessing to be in the Lord’s house several times a week.”

Pam loves to read everything ‘of good report’. She especially loves anything LDS or birth related. She also loves to write and recently started her own blog: thepersonalexperienceexpert.blogspot.com.

Pam is a woman who believes in claiming her age (she’ll be 39 at the conference). “Claim it and be excited. Each year is a blessing from God. Every year has brought me new experiences, new growth, new learning.”

Speaker Spotlight: Julia Holt

What can I say about Julia except that she is awesome, inspirational, and gifted! I've known Julia for many years now and she's been such a great mentor! You are going to love her.

Julia is the mother of 7, and understands all the struggles and challenges that come along with incorporating a healthy and raw lifestyle with a growing family!
This is one thing that makes her so endearing, you can identify with her! She's been there AND done that. As a result of health issues she looked for a way to heal herself holistically; she educated herself and found natural paths to wellness through Living Food, Raw Cooking, Herbal Remedies and Essential Oils.

Not only is she a mother and doula, she is also a raw food coach and teaches classes. Also
as an herbal healer, Julia is knowledgeable about herbs and their uses. From tinctures to teas and poultices to potpourri, she can save someone from overused and ineffective modern medical cures.

Juia's classes are:
Living Food and the Living Word: Raw Food Diet and the Scriptures
Raw Food Demo and Q&A (yum!)
Nurturing Ourselves and Our Families Through Herbs, Oils and Raw Foods
Pass the Sugar, Please! Sugar Alternatives

Here's some feedback from happy clients:

Julia’s a raw foodie with mad skills (especially in the "cake" department) who's always willing to help when there's a need. A life-learner and promoter of health & wellness, she’s devoted to helping others while gaining knowledge that will benefit her family for generations to come.”

Like a spring breeze, she’s always refreshing and invigorating to be around; I always learn something when I talk to her. She can work magic in the kitchen.”

Update from the Pecks...

We apologize for not being more thorough in the previous post! The Peck's wanted to add:

In addition to the two classes mentioned (We Are as the Parents of the Armies of Helaman and Change the World by Living Your Regular Life), they will also offer two more classes:

Teaching Self-Government
and
Fundamentals of the Family Relationships

"We are excited to be part of such a great conference! Our parenting is as holistic as it gets. We believe in going back to the basics of communication to solve the relationship and behavior problems in the family. We don't believe in using tricks to parent children. We believe in teaching them the communication skills they need to learn how to govern themselves. Teaching Self-Government is very much a principle based approach to parenting. No tricks here, just good solid communication skills, which change the hearts of tantrum toddlers to tough teens.
For more information you can visit my blog where I answer people's parenting questions for free. http://teachingselfgovernment.com "
